  • Last year, the summer of 2001, I was on vacation. I was looking for new music I could listen to when traveling, and stumbled over this release. I didn`t even know it was out, it just suddenly appeared. I bought the cd, and started listening to it. And boy was I positively surprised. I did expect it to be good, but not to be so great it actually is. The intimate mood and the special “Non” Scorpions sound make this a winner. A warm and welcome album from the best Rockers in Europe. It is sort of a combined album. The sound is acoustic, but it doesn`t sound ALL acoustic. It is a special sound, but it is warm and welcome, just like a perfect relaxing summeralbum. The songs. The songs are well performed, but the tracklisting could have been better. Some of the songs are sweet, and my personal favorites, like the new and Beautiful song “Life is too short”, the catchy “The Zoo”, the always fantastic “Still loving you” and the mystical and soothing “Send me an Angel”. All these songs are the album`s highlight, but “Love of my life”, “I wanted to cry(But the tears wouldn`t come)” and “Always somewhere” are great too. The songs that are not so good, would be “You and I”, “Hurricane 2001″ and “Dust in the wind”. These songs are not very good here. Rock you like a hurricane is a great song original, but not stripped down. (I would rather have songs like “When the smoke is going down”, “Coast to Coast” and more classical Scorpions songs, but hey, we can`t get everything!)Anyway, this album is great. I can`t wait for Scorpions to go into Studios again for another Studio-album, but until then this album will fill the time, along with “Love at first sting”, “Animal Instinct” and “Blackout”.

  • When MTV was releasing the MTV Unplugged albums, I dreamed about the day when Scorpions could have their own acoustic album. With so many great acoustic songs, they could have easily filled an entire set with songs like “When the Smoke Is Going Down”, “Born to Touch Your Feelings”, “Lonely Nights”, “When You Came Into My Life”, “Under the Same Sun”, and many, many more. Unfortunately, many of these songs aforementioned songs never made it onto Acoustica…instead Scorpions played several cover songs, which was not necessary since Scorpions have plenty of their own material to play. Nirvana just did not have enough material of their own to create an entire set of fully acoustic numbers, but those songs they covered worked well (if not even sounding better than the originals!). Like with Moment of Glory, some songs work well with an orchestra or fully acoustic set, and some songs don’t. Harder songs like Rock You Like A Hurricane and Catch Your Train just don’t work very well without the electricity and amps. “Catch Your Train” was (at first) pleasing to see that they pulled out this old classic, but it was “honkey-tonkey-fied” and sounds HORRIBLE.Some of the songs like “Holiday” and “Send Me An Angel” were changed, which was somewhat interesting, but not particularly memorable. This album had plenty of potential, but I feel that it did not come off nearly as well as it could have. With the large repertoire of songs at their disposal, Scorpions could have easily created a two hour set of beautiful acoustic melodies. Instead, what was sadly put out is one of the least memorable Scorpions albums. I have been listening to Unbreakable nearly non-stop for the past several weeks since its release, yet I have barely listened to Acoustica in the three years I’ve had the album. Live albums such as World Wide Live and Tokyo Tapes present Scorpions in a much better light in what they are capable live, as one of the best live acts ever.

  • Call this the Scorpions version of an MTV Unplugged album. You CANT go wrong with this one. Meine’s vocals really stand out. Versions of several well-known numbers here are just great. The arrangement of “rock you like a hurricane” is interesting. The cover of Queen’s “love of my life” is good, and this is coming from a die-hard Queen fan. It makes you wish Freddie was still here to have done this himself. Also covered is Kansas’ “dust in the wind” – and likewise, having seen Kansas live, I can say this version does justice to it, I prefer this up-tempo one. Aside from some hits, the lesser known (to most americans) songs here are executed nicely. This CD scores as many points as their orchestral rock album “moment of glory”. Buy it.

  • If you want Heavy Scorpions, this is not the Cd for you!If your a fan of the Scorps Ballads then go ahead and Buy this one. If you think that Acoustical sets should all be heavy and loud, this your mistaken, Scorps finally have a way of showing us the raw talent of Rudolph and Mathias, and of course Klauss vocals are flawless. Some new songs and some new versions of old songs of course, and some delightful suprise covers of a few of the greats like “Dust in the Wind” and “Drive” Both songs respectably done with taste and original depth.Over all……Scorpions have put together something very original with their talents, and I am very pleased!!
