First of all, let me say that Kreator is a spectacular band that ought to be considered one of the best thrash bands ever. They bury alot of the early American thrash. I have come to favor Kreator even over Slayer. In fact only Canada’s own Sacrifice can top Kreator’s best efforts in my honest opinion. With that being said, this album is one of those efforts. Some people complain that there might be less speed on this album than previous ones. This is just barely true, but one would be hard pressed to complain against the vast harmonies that now intermittenly mingle with Kreator’s staple of speed. To put it plainly, when they aren’t playing a million miles an hour they are producing brilliant melodic harmonies. Sometimes, if you listen closely, they are doing both. This album, in retrospect, was a template for the most recent stuff that they have released. Which to me, is probably the best stuff. It’s still fast as hell, but now there’s a little more going on. If you are a fan of early Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer, Testament or the like and you haven’t heard Kreator before… do yourself a favor and pick this up or one of their latest albums. Not to discount the early stuff which is mind blowing, it’s just that these albums are a little more immediately accessible.
Metal Album Reviews[RSS]
This is a great CD. I purchased the cassette tape back in 1990 and loved every song on it. Great era for thrash metal too! I even have the People of the Lie music video taped from The Headbangers Ball on MTV as well as an interview with Mille by Ricky Rackman. Classic stuff for sure. One of the better Kreator albums of their career. Highly recommended. Also pick up Violent Revolution and Enemy of God. All great music to work out to, it breathes energy…
A definate must have for anybody with a thrash metal collection. Mille’s vocals kick major butt, as well as his solos. I absolutly love their style of distortion.
COME ON!…this is a CLASSIC, it saw them slowing down the tempo a BIT, not too much, this is their last “classic” album to me, I like some of the others after, but none touch this, the first track “When The Sun Burns Red” will remind you of “Extreme Aggression” the album, not the track, “Coma of Souls” is probably my favorite off the album, just listen to the riffs, they rule huh?, “People of the Lie” is more of a mid-paced number, but it’s catchy as hell, sure to be a pleaser, another killer song is “Terror Zone” that song just kills all, the rest on the album are good, but I think I’ve mentioned the best of it, the vocals are piped down a bit, but they’re still nasty as hell, just not as nasty as on “Extreme Aggression”, any Metal fan shouldn’t be dissappointed with this release, it’s a great CD, last album for the “classic” Kreator, do yourself a favor, and buy it, THRASH!!!
I am the biggest Kreator’s fan on earth… yes, I am and you are not! I had the priviledge to meet Mille Petrozza 2 years ago and let me tell you that he is a terrific guy. So now I not only respect him as a musician but as a person as well.
About this record… It has it all: violence, brutallity, melody, heavy riffs, rawness, attitude and Hate. Yes, Hate! I would dare to say that what really makes this band is the “hate” that they proyect. They hate you, me, themselves, the album’s producer, the sound engineer, etc… I mean, you can feel the hate that Mille Petrozza feels for the world on every song.
The first time I heard “When the sun burns red” I was totally amazed by the force of this song… it’s just incredible! The rest of the songs are really good. Now, I have to point out that “People of the lie” really stands out from the rest of the songs. Great message by the way!
The only flaw (in my opinion) is that the last 2 songs are somehow weaker than the rest… I read an interview that Mille gave to a magazine (on the net) and he accepted that on this CD there are a couple of fillers. I will not call these songs “fillers”, but they are not as good as the rest.
Overall My rate will be 8.5 out of 10. This is pure trash metal!
Go and Buy it.. you wont regret it.
