Retaliate” starts unpromisingly with some generic chugging riffing. But after a minute comes a dive-bombing solo straight out of Slayer, and the album is off to the races. The title track alone goes through death, grind, and straight-up thrash in whiplash fashion. The rest of the album mixes up these influences, keeping things brutal and varied, if not exactly groundbreaking. The surprisingly thoughtful lyrics alternate between misanthropic and abstract.
