Pretty Maids are my all time favorite band when looking at songs and music of a band with many release. They are just incredible… and it is, beyond what words can convey, a shame that they are so unknown. This album is sooooo awesome. The sound is mint… the vocals and guitar are so excellent and they do the songs such justice that you learn to love the studio and live versions of the songs equally. Their singer is my favorite singer in rock/metal… who can effortlessly switch between an ultra-clean and a gravelly voice at will… both of which are outstanding. The guitarist is one of the all time best in terms of being great at both lead and rhythm. Not so much in terms of blistering speed… but just in sheer quality… there are some I like just as much, but none I like better!! The interplay with the crowd is also alot of fun on this because they talk back and forth in their native language on this CD (is it Danish?, whatever it is, it really sounds neat). The songs are a strong smattering of their best up to that point in their career. The weakest songs on this album came from the studio album (Scream) that this tour supported… BUT… dont get me wrong, there is not a bad song in the bunch. Highlights include the beautiful Savage Heart and Yellow Rain, which each start out slow and end nice and rocking. Others like Sin Decade, Future World, and Red Hot and Heavy are just classic songs that by all rights should be metal anthems known and enjoyed world wide just as much as all the traditionally famous metal songs. This is a group that has been so overlooked its sad… in addition to this… if you find you love it… you NEED Sin Decade (the album) and Spooked (the import version with the extra tracks). I also highly recommend Future World, Jump The Gun, Stripped, Planet Panic, and Carpe Diem. The others are all good too, but I would grab Anything Worth Doing, Is Worth Overdoing and Scream as the last studio CDs to get.
For all of you Pretty Maids fans that don’t as of yet own this…get it. It was recorded a little earlier in their career so there are some newer songs missing. The crowd interaction is amazing! And although when interacting w/ the crowd, it’s not in english, it doesn’t need to be. You get the drift. All together….another fine Maids release.
