  • i’m listening to skyforge with a cup of joe. Amorphis new album pulls you in, energizes you, and you find yourself sitting back and listening to the majestic beauty of this metal. Quite all I can say about this gem. Beautiful and moving. Thank you Amorphis.

  • Another awesome album by Amorphis in similar vein to their two previous albums. They seem to get the growling/clean vocal balance recipe just right.I noticed that track 6:My Sun bears an uncanny resemblance to a track from one of Dark Tranquillity’s albums. No sweat with that though because they’re another great band too.

Something I noticed which other metal fans probably know already. This album sounded quite good on a portable device [minidisc player/stereo mode]but I played it on an old Pioneer stereo system with an old Sony full size cd player and a pair of new Athena bookshelf speakers.Boy,what a transformation in sound quality!I’m now thinking that perhaps the decline in the following of metal is caused by the portable audio phenomenon where you can no longer get to appreciate the richness of sound that you only seem to get with a home stereo system when listening to metal in particular.Forgive the digression from the album review.

  • I have been a long time fan of Amorphis since the early Death Metal days. I knew there was something very different about the band when I first heard Tales From The Thousand Lakes. I have watched Amorphis slowly grow artistically and prove that there is more to Heavy Metal than shock value and screaming. I was very excited when I heard that Amorphis was goig to release Skyforger as I have been more and more impressed with every album since the early ’90s. I’m very pleased to say this is by far the best album I’ve heard in the last decade at least, maybe longer. I put the CD in my player and listened from beginning to end without skipping a single track. If I had to pick two favorites they would be Highest Star (I never thought a flute would fit with metal so perfectly) and Course Of Fate (It just rocks there’s no other way to explain it). If you’ve never heard Amorphis before this is an AMAZING example of what Progressive Death & Folk Metal should be. Beautiful melody, raw power, real feeling, and pure love of music.

  • First off words alone can’t do this Cd Justice. You have to listen to this cd to be able to comprehend it’s greatness. I first heard this cd like a month ago when they were streaming it off of there myspace and I was floored. This is an amazing cd in my opinion flawless. last year the standout cd for me was Scar Symmetry’s “Holographic Universe”. This year it’s Amorphis and there beast of a cd called Skyforger. I listen to it all from death metal to progessive to thrash etc… Skyforger in my humble opinon is the Cd of 2009 and everything else that comes out after this cd is just fighting for the 2nd best cd of the year, it’s just that good and it’s only june, well technically as of writing this it’s now July.

I have most of Amorphis’s Cd’s with the previous singer and now with this guy and I personally like the new guy. His clean vocals are mesmerizing and so relaxing but in contrast his death vox are gritty and gutteral and powerful just how i like them… like scar symmetry’s old singer Christian there aren’t many vocalist’s out there that can carry the death vox and clean vox and do them both with incredible power and passion… most guys can either do great death and a pathetic clean vocals or visa versa but this vocalist is incredible, this is a very melodic/progressive death metal cd… it balances everything just perfectly. I’m done just go and buy this cd and judge for yourself how great this cd is, you will not be dissappointed…

  • “From the mystic dreams of nighttime..”
I did like the song Silver Bride a lot when I first played it. But when I was listening to Sky is Mine on Amorphis’s Myspace streaming, I really felt Tomi’s mystic voice is coming like a mystic dream of silent night!
te mystic musical with mystic voiced Sky is Mine is probably the best song of the album with the best vocal work of Tomi Joutsen.
Preliminary listens confirmed that the band was trying their hand at a more prog-oriented album, but it also appeared that they had pulled it off. It seemed that they had learned from their past mistakes and had retained the strong melodies, death growls and stylish keyboard accompaniment of the past but had integrated those elements into prog rock structures that pushed the clean vocals and choruses to the forefront. This blend of strong guitar melodies and catchy choruses resulted in an album that’s instantly appealing and enjoyable. Due to this outcome, it didn’t seem to matter that the death growls had been relegated mostly to a support role or that heavier sections were few.
I waited for this album for a long, very long time. Since Eclipse, I tend to wait for every new Amorphis album.
The third album with singer Tomi Joutsen (who our own MetalGeorge gives “savior” status to), Skyforger maintains that sinewy, gentle ebb that Eclipse ushered in. There’s no real aggression here, save for the direct knock-off of Opeth’s “The Grand Conjuration,” “Majestic Beast” which is a clunker. But for the most part, Skyforger rides Joutsen’s er, majestic voice, and Esa Halopainen’s lead guitar lines.
Some graceful moments pop up during the chorus of “Sky Is Mine” and the opening strands of “From the Heaven of My Heart,” which have a nice, Tuonela feel to them. Probably the same can be applied for “My Sun,” which doesn’t leave much of an impression. “Highest Star” and “Course of Fate” do recall the more glorious moments of Eclipse, which emerge as the more redeeming moments on the album.
this album is much much more melodic than their any other album and also Tomi has shown much more melodic and of course, mystic vocal work of him. Not to mention Esa and Tomi’s guitar works and Jan’s drums work.
Skyforger is just a piece of best-ness. Its great in many ways which proves Amorphis will still be making such great albums for another long time!
