Not since Tenacious D has an album that at first seems to parody a popular genre ends up transcending it to stand at the front of the line as one of the best. Just like Jack Black made fun of rocker culture and ended up writing a killer rock album, so has Mr. Small written a truly and melodically brutal metal album in the process of making fun of metalhead culture.
If you dig on older (or older-sounding) metal like early Metallica or Avenged Sevenfold, or if you’re into hardcore/deathmetal like Slipknot or Cannibal Corpse – this album will suprise you.
Let’s put it this way: It’s been a long, long time since I’ve bought a CD and listened to it front to back three times in a row.
“You people out there give us more than just record sales… You give us something to HATE. We hate you. You brainless mutants.”
