Twilight is a Black Metal Supergroup featuring members of Leviathan, Xasthur, Nachtmystium and Draguar, all 4 incredible bands in their own right. Another reviewer complained about the production, and that is hardly a legitimate complaint. THe production serves the bleakness of the music well, as the drawn out, reverbed and occasionally soft sound of the album lends it an organic sound. It gets muddy at times, but to great effect. The vocals come from, I believe, Wrest and Malefic, predominantly, and you can feel the influence of their contributions well through out the whole alubm. The drum machining, asusual, is not programmed and is played by hand, and the mechanical sounds of the drums help add a dismal touch to the album. (Many of the best depressive Black Metal bands use a drum machine for a mechanical sound. Leviathan, Xasthur, BLut Aus Nord, rtc.)The pinnacle of USBM this year. Strangely enough, I do not find the album to equal the sun of its parts. I find some of the members other projects to be a more rewarding and wholesome listen. Minor quibbles aside, an amazing album nonetheless and a definite must get.
