This is definitely the best Amon Amarth album yet, and that says a lot. I was a fan of these guys' Viking death metal influences for a long time. What is Amon Amarth, apart from the typical death metal is the fact that it has a melody for their work. There are a lot of high tremolo picking and so on. Do not get me wrong, there is still much to handle bass, there is only an epic feel to their sound. What makes this album so special? It seems as if they pushed their songwriting a few notches. You can pretty much their singer and everything he says. The solos are much better. These guys really are with this record! This is definitely up there for one of the best of the year 2006.

I have noticed that this album is in the 600 best sale amazon list. That's pretty good for an underground metal band, I would say. I am glad that a good band is finally noticed. In any case, do not know, Amon Amarth is a band that plays a kind of Death Metal as “Viking Metal”. Their texts, their image, their music is based on the epic sonic landscapes of the Vikings, Norse mythology and battles of honor and glory. They are much like their Death Metal Cousins, flash cannon, in this respect. While Bolt Thrower Pummel us with songs and brutal riffs everywhere, Amon Amarth throws in Deep Throat singing (which is still somehow to understand what an amazing singer, they have!) And an melodic, but heavy wall of sound …. much like an army approaching! In recent releases, AA will have a little more melodic than their earlier stuff, but it's as good as ever.
its previous efffort, the fate of the Norn, was a good release, but it was much too slow and melodic, even with AA standards. With this release, they take the tempo quite a bit and find the perfect balance between heavy and melodic, epic and to the point.
Tracks 3, 5, 6, and 9 are my favorites. 3 is simply the toughest, fastest song on the album, and it Pummel until you see the exact second is gone. Track 9 is a slower (but still serious retardely) way in which the epic sound of perfect AA. At this sound, so you have the melodic guitar, the slower melodic parts, the heavy guitar with the faster, crunchy parts. The vocals, drums, bass and this song come togther with the other and a very powerful song, one of the best AA. The atompshere on this song is very very dark and full of despair and hoplesness. I love it.

    Gods of war, arise!!!
Amon Amarth continues their streak of amazing viking themed death metal with With Oden on Our Side. As always, the vocalist Johann sounds fantastic and the lyrics themselves are…

For those who are corrupt friends from your “normal” Heavy Metal on the dark side of death metal, this might be the perfect CD. My background is that I used to like all kinds of music (except rap and country), then much like Queensryche, then hook to metal of all kinds (except for Death and Black).
My friend, the leap from metal to me, like the heavier stuff, especially death. I did it a few times, but it never grabbed me. I have nothing against it, because it is basically “white noise” that works as background music, but it was not what I had in the CD player on my own.
Then I saw this CD at Borders “. Read an overview of them to their various computers scattered around. Almost bought, not, and asked my friend to make them sometime over. Immediately after hearing I knew that I really like the music. The voice, well, they do not have me, but the draw was odd, I could understand it (the first time that this really happened).
So I have the CD. I still can not hear it over and over, and usually it is in a mixture, but I _do_ like. The melody of the guitars and drums work very well, and the voice is not too overpowering. Plus, the lyrics, if you read them, are well done and evocative. It is only a 4 because I'm not very experienced in the genre, and it is not one of my top-10-Metal-CDs. As a crossover (from normal to death metal) CD but it can only be a 5-rate.

The Greatest Death Metal Album EVER!
…In my humble opinion at the very least. It’s a bold statement indeed, particularly because everyone has their own opinion on what the greatest is.

Those of you who like metal but are not familiar with Amon Amarth, do yourself a favor, give this album a chance. They’re hardcore, heavy, and intense. A great find.

    Modern melodeath classic
Amon Amarth sure took a different approach when the time came to write their newest album. It was a much more serious approach, as if the band finally decided to come together,…

Attttttaaaack! AA gets better with each album
Johan Hegg and AA are back with their sixth studio offering, and in my opinion, unquestionably their most polished work to date.
