Tries hard, but comes up short
Nickelback has always caught a lot of slack from fans of Modern Rock as being too commercial and too pop-like for many to digest without feeling a sugary guilt afterwards.

This review is from: Dark Horse (MP3 Download) < / b> Nickelback's new album brings the first major changes since sonic signature with EMI and Roadrunner Records (with the possible exception of “The State”), largely due to influential producer “Mutt” Lange from his ” ; rock music scene retirement of 8 years, and putting his two cents worth (and there are two large cents) in the recording.
known for his uncanny ability to a stagnant band or artist to be a success over night, Lange helped save bands like Foreigner and Heart … not to forget what he for AC / DC and Def Leppard.
While Nickelback frontman Chad Kroeger still co-production on Dark Horse, you knew what would change, because with long, there is only one correct way to do things. It is obvious, with the great success of the band under the leadership of Kroeger and production, particularly with the 2005 in “All The Right Reasons” still strong after the sale of millions, that was not a “save” situation. .. just a great opportunity for Kroeger and company, with a legend.
The result is a kind of “Nickelback meets the 80's” record and the best way to describe the sound is BIG, FAT, and thick … with a little momentum … and guitar and drums as priorities. If you are a fan of 80s hard rock in the style of AC / DC and Def Leppard, read no furthur … They love this album.
However, if you like me and prefer the natural sound of the Kroeger efforts, you have a problem or two with this record. That sounds a little on the manufacture and processing, for my tastes. Lange influence in this album as the songs themselves. He is definitely in an arena rock record with a hard rock / heavy metal anthems … Nature as a whole, it sounds like a big jam session with all ten scales (except for some of the always-well, mid-tempo adult contemporary ballads).
complex background vocal chants and special effects are everywhere, and my biggest beef with the drum sounds … Lange e-brand hybrid snare drum sounds are so over-the-top for me. If I wanted to hear this kind of production today, I'd rather dust off my old Def Leppard and AC / DC tapes and listen … I do not need to hear it on a record 2008 Nickelback.
Apart from the fact that some of the songs are not half bad … “Dark Horse” is set to a fast start with the ever-infectious “Something In Your Mouth” … on the basis of repeated, extremely catchy guitar riffs, once in the head, it is to remain. “Gotta Be Somebody” is one of the best nickel back in mid-tempo melodies AC in a while, and “I'd Come For You” is similar, albeit slower pace. Interestingly, “Mutt” Lange production style does not seem to hurt the ballads … they have actually benefited from the change.
But when the heavy, straight-rock songs come back to the front in the production of ruin for me is … “Next Go Round”, the transducer Vocal Processor Chad does sound as if he were singing through a cardboard paper towel roll tube connected to a distortion pedal … at least the chorus is hot and catchy. The upper half of the statement is strongest, and after another solid power ballad “Never Be Alone”, “Dark Horse” begins to fade which in terms of song quality and limps closer, “this afternoon”. This country-flavored tune does not seem to fit with the rest of the collection, and it has a chorus that sounds like it copied and pasted from Def Leppard album.
All in all, the host has its moments, and the average listener will not be bothered by the loss of a natural, “real” sounding character, and may even come away from the stacked several overdubbed, super-polished production.
I think Nickelback is doing well under the direction Kroeger, and it begs the question, “Why fix what is not broke?” For me, the new sound can be much to be desired, and at the end, “Dark Horse” is not stopped.

You know, I really try to review all music with very little expectations, I have found that there is so much easier for me really sit back and enjoy what the artists do on every album. This can not be me the best critics in the world, but because I tend to ignore what some prior musical, lyrical, historical, etc. … but I think it keeps me true to me.
said today Nickelback yesterday does not sound like Nickelback that much. Sure, three albums before they may've had a harder edge, whereas the present Nickelback seems more flirting with a mainstream sound. This is not necessarily a bad thing, I think the great danger it poses to a group that may be a bit of predictability … but please no serious Nickelback fan of the group from the first album when he had expected that the band at the end here and I bet that he never would have predicted. It shows that the band has tried to develop, which is more than many bands always try to do. It shows that the quest for power will remain – a growing fan base – and I can 'em props for that.

Wake children, people, we are talking about sex education with a heavy rock 'n' roll as it was rocked and rolled.

      Bad Boy Classic Rock.
Gotta Be Somebody (4.5 out of 5)
Listen to me on this, heavy-metal purists. Somewhere between writing music and selling records, each artist has to reach a compromise. Around the time of the band, the spring and “Photograph”, metal purists Nickelback wrote that they are “mainstream” to raise money, but Robert Downey Jr. convinced Gwenyth Paltrow for a role in Iron Man by he her, “Are you not tired, that these great little films that nobody sees? “Nickelback Cut some slack. With “Photograph” and titles such as “Gotta Be Somebody”, they sell more records, the more fans for their music and growing the biz. Hats off, guys.

is not much to add except the result. As the clay, as the emotions. I will leave it at that.

Serious Headbangers are gonna need an MRI after listening to this. Thank God for the metal.

Never Gonna Be Alone (4.5 OT 5)
Great rock ballad. Also for weddings safe! Love lasts. It should be celebrated.
Shakin 'Hands (11 out of 5!)
Now That's what I call rock. “She is no Cinderella, while they are undressed b / c it rocks like the Naughty Wicked Witch of the West!” Sure, it has not so far from “Shakin 'hands.” li'l Bad Girls Best Song I 've heard in a long while.

Spelling has never been this fun in school. Only metal could write a song like this. Do not listen to Martina McBride sings it.
If today was your last day (3.5 out of 5)
This area has already been probed by musical style. Not a bad song, just nothing new here. Been there, done that. And, yes, Martina McBride has also sung is.

What? Dare I say it … a feeling / good song? The main props for mentioning CCR (faith Clearwater Revival, for the layman). It is easy to forgive, how Confections, if they do not feel more than a little out of place on this album.
Overall a very solid experience. A bit uneven in tone – perhaps too much fluctuating in the direction of mainstream rock, as most people (including critics) would like to have, but I forgive Nickelback for putting in the effort. There is much to celebrate, even for a “Dark Horse”.

This band has done it again! I love the deep bass of all the songs but am especially turned on with the lyrics of “If Today Was Your Last Day”. What a great positive song!

This review is from: Dark Horse (MP3 Download) < / b> Sequels sometimes have a lot to live, but this does not disappoint. It has the ability to adapt to a variety of flavors, depending on the song from the romantic to bold rock. Some of the language is a bit much for me on a few songs, but it's like I said, that there something for everyone.
for me the highlights and the soul of the album in the track to:
Gotta someone (easily the best song that anybody can identify)
I would come for you (Makes my heart melt)
never to be alone (probably the word to a few weddings)
S.E.X. (To the point, but a good tease to)
If today was your last day (good opportunity to get every day)

I’m a touch embarrased to say it, but I actually LIKE it.
I was a fan of Nickelback’s first album, The State, and then they dropped off my radar because they became a bit too mainstream.
