Cryptopsy has a really good classical influenced riff in “phobophile”. As for entire bands, I’m honestly not very knowledgeable on the subject.

  2. Mike says:

Necrophagist and Spawn Of Possession are highly influenced by classical music.

  3. Mary says:

Angelika & Demons, some of the songs sound like rock opera

Not many people mention them, but Lamb of God is a great metal band. I have seen them live 6 times and they always put on a good show. Mark Morton and Willie Adler are both accomplished guitarists and Chris Adler is probably one of the best metal drummers out there.

    Symphony x

    Nightwish is a great band.

Versailles Philharmonic Quintet is a great Neo-classical Metal Band from Japan.

Earthen Grave’s Electric Flying V Violin player is Rachel Barton Pine. She is actually a classical soloist and metal performer.

  9. The Great Kat is a very Classical influenced and over the top metal band / musician. She is a Julliard classically trained violinist turned metal shredder.

What about Progressive metal like Dream THeater,Symphony X,Pagens Mind,Ayreon,Vaden Plas,Ayreon and if they are concidered metal Rush. While I love Metal I think Progressive rock is the most intellagent genre both fron musicianship and concept and thats the same for Prog metal.

Septicflesh (Septic Flesh) have a full time orchestra play on their latest 3 albums. All of them (Sumaerian Demons, Communion, and The Great Mass) are absolutely fantastic.

Dimmu Borgir have an orchestra as well.

As far as influenced goes, I’d say most neo-classical metal artists (well duh!) such as Yngwie Malmsteen, Symphony X, Stratovarius, and more recently, Fleshgod Apocolypse.

All the above bands are absolutely fantastic, and I personally reccomend them to anyone who is even slightly into metal.

yngwie j malmsteen is heavyly influenced by classical music, i strictly recommend “the young person’s guide to the classics vol.1 & vol.2 ” for any one interested in metal music influenced by classical music.

    Dream theater hands down

  14. Nima says:

Manowar: not precisely inspired by classical music (although Joey claims his inspired by Wagner) Manowar was the first metal band to add orchestral anc choral elements to a metal piece. Their ‘Gods of war’ album (highly criticized by most fans) has quite a lot of orchestral parts.

Animals As Leaders! Anyone who has not listened to them do it now. You will be amazed! Hands down one of the most musically talented bands I’ve ever listened to. Or Periphery. Check them out to.
